Nilai UC welcomes new students 007-style
27 May 2008

A large turn out at Nilai UC's President Hall for the Bond-themed Orientation Night.

Licensed to thrill! After a week of hectic orientation activities, the new students at Nilai International University College (Nilai UC) let their hair down at a Casino Royale-themed party. With James Bond and the glamorous Bond girls as role models, needless to say, many of the 800-plus students turned up in their finest and flashiest threads.

According to organizing chairperson, Phang Sook Yan (2nd year, Oxford Brooke University 3+0 Accounting and Finance programme), the theme was based to give the whole vent a sense of glamour. But beyond all the finely tailored suits and dresses, there was also the small matter of a talent contest, which saw eight different groups, highlighting the students’ various talents. There were dance troupes, dramatic and comedic skits which all centred on the Casino Royale-theme. The dance troupe garnered the most applause with their breath-taking hip hop moves but it was the 'High Five' comedic troupe which won the best performance award for its hilarious take on Bond clichès.

"The talent contest is there to encourage a friendly competitive spirit as well as mould students into well-rounded individuals," says Alfred Ong, manager of Nilai UC's Department of Student Affairs. "But the overall aim of the Orientation Week is to welcome the new students and make them feel at home in their new environment. That's why we encourage all our students to turn up by making this a free event."

A member of the dance troupe gets acrobatic during the talent contest.

Earlier in the week, the new students were involved in a host of events designed to familiarise them with their new surroundings. There was a treasure hunt around Nilai UC's 105-acre award-winning campus as well as a tour round the myriad of facilities.

Nilai UC's commitment towards producing well-rounded graduates was also highlighted during the Orientation week with various sporting events taking place. On the more fun and light-hearted side was the tele-match which focussed on teamwork. It was also a great way for the new students to get to know one another. For the serious athletes, there was also a mini-Olympiad where events such as tug-o-war tested the students' strength of character. There was also a membership drive by Nilai UC's various clubs and associations to drive home the importance of extra-curricular activities.

I had a car accident last night, and oddly enough I paniked so much that I said 'Good Bye' and 'Thank You' to the fella after the negotiation !

I picked up Karine and PuiYan from their homes, then drove to Sunway Pyramid safely. We waited for a while for the rest to find and recognize my dad's car, which I parked right in front of them. as blind as ..bats? lol

Since we were at that area, we thought of realising our long time planned plan - to yum cha at Asia Cafe. no no, it is not a state away nor is it very inaccessible to us. Its just that we have so many mamak places in usj area that going to the "more hip place compared to our normal mamak" does not sound so rational, having to travel an extra 20mins to get there.

Anyway, we had loads of fun in asia cafe, disowned karine from gang temporarily for wearing too nice to a mamak (she can go clubbing in that outfit edi wei!), reminisced about the great trip we had last weekend, talked about genting and penang and langkawi trips, and all other coffee shop talk.

Just like Cinderellas', we left asia cafe at 12am sharp.

I was driving out from the junction, with four pairs of eyes looking out for traffic for me. There was a truck in front so I had to drive out to the outter lane. We made sure that there was no cars on both lanes at the back.

The road was clear.

So, I drove the car out to the first lane.

Before I could complete my turn and drive straight again, we all heard a very loud screech. Brakes were screaming on top of their lungs. Not my brakes of course, I was at 40km/h, stopping wouldnt cause screaming, probably just a small whisper.
Anyway, the grey kelisa dude's breakes was screaming and we heard a bang on my side of the door about three seconds after.

yeah, right next to the divider. The crash was right next to the divider.

So..I guess you can do the maths.
Brakes screeching + Bang 3 seconds later + Crash right next to the divider
= SOMEBODY was not driving accordingly ! and that SOMEBODY, happens not to be me !

Then this tall, nerdy looking guy came out with his tall gf (thank GOD they were not a bunch of lalas' or gangsters) and said it was his first accident, and that he was travelling behind a car on the road I was on, and I did not see the car he was behind of, and his car.

haha...wat a load of nonsense.

if you were at the back of me, dear grey kelisa fella, please explain how on earth did you crash into my driver's door? and if it was your first accident, how did you get the other huge dent on the other side of your car? did someone sit on that part of the car and dented it? lol

I took down his details, as instructed by my dad, acted as a courteous driver by saying my "Thank You"s and "Good Night"s and left the place.

what an experience @.@
