food post !

woke up extra early today to go to kaili's breakfast meal at flamme restaurant,
yeah, again. that's my second time there this week.

the breakfast came with a price, of course.
a pricey one, that is.

it was rm 10 for....
coco crunch as appetizers,
stuffed omelet,
half a slice of toasted bread,
one sausage,
potato
and fruits.

oh..coffee and cordial drinks.

ya, so not worth rm10 wei.

I would have been happier paying rm8.50 for McDonald's Big Breakfast.
at least I'll get to eat my beloved Sausage McMuffin =)

but nvm lah...have to support my friend since its for her finals.

after class, dad picked me up from college. he was feeling hungry and adventurous.

fyi, my dad is usually not the adventurous type of person.

he is quite the opposite in fact.

he is usually the type that sticks to a restaurant that he thinks is good.
yeah, the loyal type of person.

but, loyalty is one thing,
and taking the whole family to the same place every weekend till all of us get so sick of the restaurant that we begin to start tearing our hairs out, is a different thing.

there's this once, he found a really good and clean bak kut teh restaurant at ss17, Jaya Square.
sure, it was good at first.
clean restaurant with lots of fu chok, I like.
in that two months without fail, i think we have became steady patrons of the same bak kut teh restaurant for every saturday!
I got so so so sick of bak kut teh after that MySpace

then, we switched to some curry fish head restaurant at ss15 till all of us went MySpace

you get the gist =P

and now the current 'fad' for my saturday meals are still...
margaret's yong tau foo!
i love it still, though =P

anyway....

he was feeling adventurous and wanted to look for this famous restaurant in Dengkil.
and dig this...
he does not know where it is,
what is the name of the restaurant or
what it was famous for!
so fun! =P

lol..so there we were, in Dengkil, seeking high and low for this 'famous' restaurant.

then we found this...
the name of the restaurant is not noticeable in this picture, but its called Restaurant Sinki.
yeah, the Basin Restaurant.
it was not surprising why it took us long before we could find the place ya?
look at the exterior, no signs of 'famous-ness' at all.

but inside, there were lots of newspapers clippings of the restaurant and pictures of famous ppl who dined there before.
there was also our ex-transport minister, Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy's brimming face stuck on the wall.

needless to say, we've found our 'famous' restaurant in the small town of Dengkil.

and we had....

Braised Pork Vermicelli
for lunch.

yeah, I know...
in this picture, the dish looks as though it has came out from the other end of an elephant, right?

but its a chinese, normal class, restaurant mar.
and isn't a normal perception that for chinese food,
the dirtier looking,
the more delicious? lol

its was really really yummy for me MySpace

Toastmasters Charter Installation Night

After six long months of attending Toastmasters meetings, we are finally installed and chartered as an official club! and also officially as the second Toastmasters club in Negeri Sembilan! =)

the dinner was at Flamme Restaurant, which everyone in college knows serves the minimal portion at the maximum price ever.

i mean, the first time I had lunch there, I paid rm12 for little portions of sandwiches, curry puff and jelly! total rip off.

anyway, we each had to pay rm20 for dinner - roasted chicken, french onion, potato salad(loved it =P) and cheesecake (spongey type of cheese cake).

dinner was ok lah, not bad lah.

i have a friend in the kitchen preparing the food so can't complain much =P

candles display

my spot at the table.
was the table topic evaluator for the night.
was pretty nervous doing that cause I had to evaluate two experienced visiting Toastmasters.
but I think I pulled through alright =P

the cheesecake
see those three dark dots on the plate?
they are actually chocolate chips!
I tried prying them off the plate but those are stuck fast!

my new tags ! =D

the card on my table.
its so so cool ya?
so gaya

congrats for making the night such a great one, zen!

After the Dark Era of UFR Group Assignment

I think many people would agree with me when I say, UFR, Understanding Financial Report, is by far one of the toughest assignments I have ever encountered.

I've spent so, so many sleepless nights toiling over it. Then, I went to meet another two from two other groups, just to compared our results and we found out that our figures and methods used were different from everyone else's.

Headache, kaw kaw.

Anyway, I'm not going to rant about how horrible and confusing the assignment was.

I'm gonna post pictures taken at the end of that horrible era instead! =D

after the half an hour presentation....
my group and lecturer
chris, chew yen, ying min, denise and me

by the way, i'm so so glad that there were less than 20 people in the lecture hall that day,
instead of the usual 70.
presentation was great, and not too nerve-wreaking.
good job everyone! =D

taken using chew yen's high-tech pda.
I want a pda too,
so so so gaya MySpace

the girls

the only guy in the group

min and I

denise and I

soo yean and I

lotsa black n white pics that day ..

shocked looks
look look! my eyes are as big as min's!
whuaaaa...big achievement! lol

i forgot the theme of this pic
its a happy pic of min and I look errrr..sinister?

its like we've just walked out of g2000's catalog, doesn't it?
I know ! lol

that was definitely fun MySpace

Weekends are for Movie Marathons!

Ever since I've read the book, which I really really loved, I have been anticipating to watch the movie.
Though the dvd has been sitting on my shelf since May, I've been so busy and caught up with other things.

But.... YAY ! I finally found time to watch the whole movie! hip hip hooray! MySpace

Psssst...I Love You !
I liked the movie.
Notice the word 'like', which is not the same as 'love'.

Well, in the movie they did change a lot of details.

Holly's family background was changed,
Daniel's not as charming as described,
the way of delivering the letter was different and
there's the whole Gerry's fortress part which I cannot recall any of it from the book.
And, I do not remember that both sides of their families objected their relationship so badly, to the extend of hate. =(

what??
I think I should read the book again. MySpace

Despite of all the changes, I still enjoyed the movie.
Gerard Butler was great as Gerry and Hilary Swank was not bad as Holly.

and I never realised how much I liked the Irish accent.
They start speaking and I was like, Ooooo... o.O

*no wonder I loved Westlife when I was younger, didn't realised that I loved them partially due to their accent* hehe

Denise (Lisa Kudrow), Holly (Hilary Swank) and Sharon (Gina Gershon)

Its kinda weird for me that Sharon, Holly's supposedly bestest girlfriend,
was so absent in Holly's life during the movie.

As for Denise, Lise Kudrow made her rock wei!

haha..I really love the way Lisa Kudrow acts.

She brings interesting life to any character, especially as the weird yet oh-so-funny Phoebe from Friends. hehe
Friends would definitely not be the same without Phoebe and her funny comebacks, weird thoughts and actions. haha

Gerry's best mate, Irish William.
Don't really remember him from the book, but he sure makes the movie nicer.

The rude and too straight forward Daniel.
Erghhh, I've imagined him a lot better looking and more classy when I was reading.
But in the movie, he was just ..Eeeeee!
I'm just so glad he did not take Gerry's place with Holly.

There you go.
My short review.
Short enough that it won't spoil the movie much,
but long enough to warn about the possible letdowns. =P

By the way, I've also watched My Super Ex-Girlfriend.

One Word for it?
" Erghhhh "
even put the word in revolting green to emphasize the Erghhhhh-ness of this movie.

more words to describe it?
cheesy
corny
obvious low-budget effects
a very desperate leading actress/heroine

I've always wanted superhero powers.
but I were to be a superheroine like the cheesy "G Girl" here,
I would rather hide my face in shame and migrate to Planet Deijogpewo, a planet far far away.

Jean from X-Men's powers for me, anytime =P

So...to sum up.
P.s. I love you
watch before reading the book. it would be a lot more romantic if done in that sequence. if you have already read the book but yet to watch the movie, don't put too much expectations in it. but either ways, its a nice movie to me =)

My Super Ex-Girlfriend
I highlighted the title of the movie in Revolting Green, enough said.

Yay Yay Yay !

Yup, Celebrate ! =)

there were times when it was hard,
there were times when i got weary,
there were definitely times when i was doubtful,
but You made me hold on,
and yes, it was worth it !

sook yan, I want you to remember this feeling for life!
it will get you thru a lot of things!

Science Versus God

Worth reading... =)

'Let me explain the problem science has with Jesus Christ.' The atheist professor of philosophy pauses before his class and then asks one of his new students to stand.

'You're a Christian, aren't you, son?'

'Yes sir,' the student says.

'So you believe in God?'

'Absolutely.'

'Is God good?'

'Sure! God's good.'

'Is God all-powerful? Can God do anything?'

'Yes.'

'Are you good or evil?'

'The Bible says I'm evil.'

The professor grins knowingly. 'Aha! The Bible!' He considers for a moment.

'Here's one for you. Let's say there's a sick person over here and you can cure him. You can do it. Would you help him? Would you try?'

'Yes sir, I would.'

'So you're good...!'

'I wouldn't say that.'

'But why not say that? You'd help a sick and maimed person if you could. Most of us would if we could. But God doesn't.'

The student does not answer, so the professor continues. 'He doesn't, does he? My brother was a Christian who died of cancer, even though he prayed to Jesus to heal him. How is this Jesus good? Hm? Can you answer that one?'

The student remains silent.

'No, you can't, can you?' the professor says. He takes a sip of water from a glass on his desk to give the student time to relax.

'Let's start again, young fella. Is God good?'

'Er...yes,' the student says.

'Is Satan good?'

The student doesn't hesitate on this one. 'No.'

'Then where does Satan come from?'

The student : 'From...God...'

'That's right. God made Satan, didn't he? Tell me, son. Is there evil in this
world?'

'Yes, sir.'

'Evil's everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything, correct?'

'Yes.'

'So who created evil?' The professor continued, 'If God created everything, then God created evil, since evil exists, and according to the principle that our works define who we are, then God is evil.'

Without allowing the student to answer, the professor continues: 'Is there sickness, Immorality, Hatred, Ugliness, All these terrible things, do they exist in this world?'

The student: 'Yes.'

'So who created them?'

The student does not answer again, so the professor repeats his question. 'Who created them? There is still no answer. Suddenly the lecturer breaks away to pace in front of the classroom. The class is mesmerized.

'Tell me,' he continues onto another student. 'Do you believe in Jesus Christ, son?'

The student's voice is confident: 'Yes, professor, I do.'

The old man stops pacing. 'Science says you have five senses you use to
identify and observe the world around you.

Have you ever seen Jesus?'

'No sir. I've never seen Him'

'Then tell us if you've ever heard your Jesus?'

'No, sir, I have not.'

'Have you ever actually felt your Jesus, tasted your Jesus or smelt your Jesus?
Have you ever had any sensory perception of Jesus Christ, or God for that matter?'

'No, sir, I'm afraid I haven't.'

'Yet you still believe in him?'

'Yes.'

'According to the rules of empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your God doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?'

'Nothing,' the student replies. 'I only have my faith.'

'Yes, faith,' the professor repeats. 'And that is the problem science has with God. There is no evidence, only faith.'

The student stands quietly for a moment, before asking a question of his own.

'Professor, is there such thing as heat?'

'Yes,' the professor replies. 'There's heat.'

'And is there such a thing as cold?'

'Yes, son, there's cold too.'

'No sir, there isn't.'

The professor turns to face the student, obviously interested. The room suddenly becomes very quiet. The student begins to explain.

'You can have lots of heat, even more heat, super-heat, mega-heat, unlimited heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat, but we don't have anything called 'cold'. We can hit up to 458 degrees below zero, which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold; otherwise we would be able to go colder than the lowest -458 degrees.

Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-458 F) is the total absence of heat. You see, sir, cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat we can measure in thermal units because heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.'

Silence across the room. A pen drops somewhere in the classroom, sounding like a hammer.

'What about darkness, professor. Is there such a thing as darkness?'

'Yes,' the professor replies without hesitation. 'What is night if it isn't darkness?'

'You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is not something; it is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light, but if you have no light constantly you have nothing and its called darkness, isn't it? That's the meaning we use to define the word. In reality, darkness isn't. If it were, you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?'

The professor begins to smile at the student in front of him. This will be a good semester. 'So what point are you making, young man?'

'Yes, professor. My point is, your philosophical premise is flawed to start with, and so your conclusion must also be flawed.'

The professor's face cannot hide his surprise this time.

'Flawed? Can you explain how?'

'You are working on the premise of duality,' the student explains. 'You argue that there is life and then there's death; a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure.

Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life, just the absence of it.'

'Now tell me, professor. Do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?'

'If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, young man, yes, of course I do'

'Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?'

The professor begins to shake his head, still smiling, as he realizes where the argument is going. A very good semester, indeed.

'Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you now not a scientist, but a preacher?'

The class is in uproar. The student remains silent until the commotion has subsided.

'To continue the point you were making earlier to the other student, let me give you an example of what I mean.'

The student looks around the room.

'Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the professor's brain?' The class breaks out into laughter. 'Is there anyone here who has ever heard the professor's brain, felt the professor's brain, touched or smelled the professor's brain? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, with all due respect, sir. So if science says you have no brain, how can we trust your lectures, sir?'

Now the room is silent. The professor just stares at the student, his face unreadable. Finally, after what seems an eternity, the old man answers. 'I guess you'll have to take them on faith.'

'Now, you accept that there is faith, and, in fact, faith exists with life,' the student continues. 'Now, sir, is there such a thing as evil?'

Now uncertain, the professor responds, 'Of course, there is. We see it everyday. It is in the daily example of man's inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil.'

To this the student replied, 'Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God.

God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light.'

The professor sat down. ---

hmmph!

I would like to live in a world where leg cramps do not exist, please.

and maybe in that world,
I might be able to have more sleeping time
&
don't scare my roommate every time I jump up from my bed in the middle of the night to do leg stretches.

By the way, I've watch Facing the Giants today. Its a very moving Christian story about revival in a Football team.

Yeah, football - not my cup of tea.
Its America's number 1 sport, I know.

But to me, its just big, buffed-up men running around pushing each other on the ground, protecting one big oval egg. If it was about basketball, it would have been a much better movie for me, cause I was pretty blur while the football games were on.

Nevertheless, its a very very very moving & touching & powerful & intensive & great & miraculous & oh-so-wonderful movie, that I wanted to quote almost everything in the movie here.

I don't usually re-watch movies, but I really want to watch Facing the Giants again before writing more about it in my blog.

Never Give Up, Never Back Down & Never Lose Faith =)
